Suspicious package closes streets in Monument

Several streets in the area of Beacon Lite Road and 3rd Street in Monument are shut down amid an investigation into a suspicious package found at the Santa Fe Trailhead. Monument Police Chief Jake Shirk tells News 5 that it's likely the package is not dangerous, but due to its suspicious nature, they are exercising and abundance of caution and calling in the bomb squad to safely remove it. Some homes and businesses within a 300-foot radius of the package have been evacuated as a precaution and 2nd Street and 3rd Street are closed until the package can be safely removed.
