Suspected "Ether Man" rapist bound over for trial

A Pueblo man will stand trial for rape in an attack on a young woman in 2006.  Police Officers believe Robert Bruce is responsible for a string of rapes in several states over a 19 year period.

Bruce is scheduled to stand trial in March of next year in this rape case.

He was charged after a strange string of events in 2009.  First, he faced a peeping tom charge.  On the day of his trial he allegedly tried to pump a Pueblo Police Officer's garage with propane so that it would explode.

The officer did not leave through the garage and noticed the propane tank when he got outside.  Bruce was charged with attempted murder in that case, and later was connected to the local rape case, along with others in Texas and New Mexico.

The rapist in those cases had been dubbed "Ether Man" because he was able to render the victims unconscious by holding chemical soaked rags to the face of those he attacked.  According to Pueblo Police the local woman was attacked in a similar fashion.
