Suspect sought in police officer assault

At around 1:15 am Sunday morning an officer with the Colorado Springs Police Department initiated a routine traffic stop at the intersection of E. Bijou St and Union Blvd. The driver appeared to comply with the officer and the police cruiser's emergency lights and pulled into a nearby parking lot stopping his vehicle.

The officer stopped her unit approximately 15 yards behind the suspect vehicle to note the vehicle's license number and call in her position into dispatch. Without warning the suspect put his car into reverse ramming the police cruiser. The suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot from the scene. Additional officers responded and conducted a search of the area, but were unable to locate the suspect.

The officer who was rammed while in her vehicle suffered only minor injuries as a result of the assault. No description of the suspect or ownership of the suspect vehicle has been released and an investigation is ongoing.
