A worker at the Monument Big O Tires store is shot and killed in the parking lot. The suspect tells investigators a story of being threatened. According to the affidavit of probable cause, 18-year-old Logan McClelland was read his rights several times and still offered several unsolicited versions of what happened.
In one version he says the victim "flipped off and said something" to McClelland, his father and brother as they tried to drive off from the store. In a later story he said the victim called his father a two word epithet.
He also gave differing stories on the shooting. In one version he says he took the gun away from his father after he had pulled it out of the glove box. Later he stated his father grabbed the gun from a backpack and said "Grab the gun." In a third version he says his father told him to "Whip it out" and McClelland then removed the gun from the backpack.
He stated he wanted to shoot the victim in the leg, but thought he had a knife so, "I killed him, I shot him." He continued "I had to keep shooting till he went down. I had to do it."
In a later version he said he decided to shoot the victim and not risk being harmed in the event the victim had a gun or knife in his pocket. The affidavit says the victim never had a weapon in his hand, [and] the victim was not armed.
The victim, 50 year old, Bradley Blehm died at the scene. Logan McClelland is held on allegations of 1st degree Murder.
A spokesperson for Big O Tires said they are fulling cooperating with the investigation, and are not in a position to discuss the events that lead to this tragedy.
