AURORA, Colo. (AP) - The suspect in the Colorado theater massacre is heading to his first court appearance.

James Holmes has been held in solitary confinement at an Arapahoe County detention facility but will be moved Monday to a courtroom next door for a 9:30 a.m. MDT hearing.

Authorities say that during the brief court appearance the charges against him of suspicion of first degree murder will be read.

The 24-year-old Holmes is accused of opening fire at an Aurora theater during a midnight premiere of the latest Batman film and killing 12 people and wounding 58 others, some critically.

It was the worst shooting in the U.S. since an attack at Fort Hood, Texas, in 2009 that killed 13 people.

Holmes has been held without bond at the lockup in Centennial, Colo., about 13 miles from the Aurora theater.
