On Sunday night, Colorado Springs police officers were dispatched to the 7-11 Store, on N. Circle Drive, to investigate a robbery in progress.
Officers learned that a male party had entered the store and attempted to purchase several cartons of cigarettes. When the clerk told the man that the credit card used by him was declined, he jumped over the counter and confronted the clerk. After a physical altercation between the male and the clerk, the man grabbed some of the cartons of cigarettes and left the store. The clerk was not seriously injured in the physical struggle.
Witnesses provided information that the suspect left the area in a white pick up truck and provided officers with a license plate number for the truck. Police were able to find the pick up truck in the parking lot of the Safeway store, on N. Circle Drive.
When officers responded to the Safeway store, they found the vehicle in the parking lot. One of the occupants of the truck, was identified as 45 year-old Thomas Trujillo, which was later identified as the man that had taken the cigarettes from the 7-11 store earlier.
Mr. Trujillo was arrested for aggravated robbery and taken to CJC.
