Last week, 24-year-old Blakelee Garrett almost did not live to see another day.
While working on a construction site, he was seriously injured while using an angle grinder with a diamond blade, which impaled him in the upper leg after it caught on a piece of metal. The injury caused him to lose life threatening amounts of blood.
Parents of six, Kipp and Paula Parker, from Limon, noticed Garrett come up onto their deck bleeding profusely from his leg. They immediately tied a tourniquet to leg, which saved his life.
The couple says they are not heroes, but were just at the right place at the right time to be positioned to save a life.
Today, Blakelee stands tall and says the couple who saved him are heroes, and he will go back to using the same piece of equipment, but will be a little more cautious.
