DENVER (AP) - A Colorado non-profit group dedicated to an overlooked need is providing underwear to children following Superstorm Sandy.

Underwearness said Thursday that it shipped 2,500 pairs of children's underwear to Staten Island. Last week, the president of the New York City borough, James Molinaro, said donation centers had gotten plenty of clothes but were in desperate need of underwear.

That didn't surprise Underwearness founder Koree Khongphand-Buckman (Ka-REE' CONE'-Pund BUCK'-man), who said people don't think about donating new underwear when they give away clothes. She said the need is great and the group has donated underwear around the world, but most domestically, to places including schools and family homeless shelters.

The all-volunteer group is best known in Colorado for its annual "Drop Your Drawers" 5K race in which racers run in their underwear.
