Superstore's attempt to sell aclohol shot down

POWDER SPRINGS, Ga. (AP) - A church outside Atlanta has blocked a Walmart Supercenter's plans to sell alcohol. The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the Cobb County Board of Commissioners rejected Walmart's request to waive a restriction on selling alcohol within 600 feet of a church. The store opened a few years ago just over 200 feet from Pine Grove Baptist Church, which has been there for decades. Pine Grove's congregation urged commissioners to reject the waiver. At Tuesday's meeting, the county commissioners rejected Walmart's request in a 4-1 vote.
