Sun Microsystems plans to lay off at least 128 employees in Broomfield as part of its planned global work force reduction of 3,000 jobs.

The local layoffs are contained in a notice Sun filed with Colorado's labor department. They're expected to take place in January.

The reductions come as Oracle Corp. struggles to acquire Sun in a $7.5 billion buyout that has been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice but is awaiting approval by European regulators.
