Summit County proposes more mail-in ballots

BRECKENRIDGE, Colo. (AP) - The Summit County clerk and recorder's office is proposing that primaries and November elections in odd-numbered years in the county be conducted completely by mail.
By law, in-person and early voting polls have to be available for mid-term and presidential elections.
At a work session Tuesday, county commissioners gave an initial nod to test the mail ballots this year.
Clerk and Recorder Kathy Neel tells the Summit Daily News that switching to mail-in ballots would cut costs by 25 to 30 percent by eliminating the need for election judges. She says that would save the county thousands of dollars. Other counties have made the switch.
Neel says 40 percent of Summit County voters already cast ballots by mail.
