STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - The widow of the late Joe Paterno has arrived at Beaver Stadium for Penn State's season opener against Ohio.

Sue Paterno and a family member arrived about 15 minutes before kickoff and came in through an employee entrance.

It's the first game at Penn State without a Paterno on the coaching staff since 1949. Joe Paterno started as an assistant in 1950 before being promoted to head coach in 1966.

Paterno was fired in November following 46 seasons, days after former assistant Jerry Sandusky was arrested on child molestation charges. Paterno's son, quarterback coach Jay Paterno, has also left the staff.

Joe Paterno died in January.

A family spokesman has said the Paternos are showing support for the team and do not want to be a distraction to the team.
