A stunning 5.16-carat flawless, blue diamond that was once part of the De Beers' famed Millennium Jewels Collection will be auctioned next week by Sotheby's Hong Kong.
If you're interested in placing a bid, the pear-shaped stone is expected to garner between $4.6 million and $5.8 million.
Blue diamonds are among the rarest of all gemstones, a Sotheby's news release notes, owing their natural blue color to the presence of boron during the stone's formation.
The Premier Diamond Mine in Transvaal, South Africa is the world's main source of blue diamonds. According to the release, of all the rough diamonds extracted from the mine each year, only one significant blue diamond is produced.
