A study at Harvard University says that young women who regularly drink alcohol are increasing the chance they'll develop a condition that often precedes breast cancer.
The researchers from Harvard University studied 9,000 girls ages 16 to 23. They looked at their alcohol habits, then followed up two years later with their health history.
What they found was those who drank 6 to 7 days per week were 5 times more likely to develop benign breast disease. Which is a condition that is made up of non-cancerous lesions and tumors, but increases the risk for cancer.
Participants who drank 3 to 5 days per week had 3 times the risk for benign breast disease when compared to those who never drank.
Experts say they are concerned, because they say more women are starting to drink alcohol in high school and college.
