A review of research suggests acupuncture may offer temporary relief for fibromyalgia but doesn't alleviate all symptoms.
Fibromyalgia affects 2-4% of the population. It is a debilitating pain syndrome that includes symptoms such as chronic pain and fatigue.
The results of this German study did show relief from fibromyalgia pain but said results were not consistent enough to recommend acupuncture for the condition.
The experimental control which used simulated acupuncture, showed similar results to patients who received the actual treatment.
Further studies have been recommended.
