Student: that's not my work

An Equal Employment Opportunity investigation is underway at Palmer High School to see whether the yearbook advisor discriminated against gay students when she deleted a page from the book.

Colorado Springs School District 11 released a document on Tuesday which was reportedly recovered by their forensic computer department. It shows a prominent photo of two students (male and female) exchanging in a lip to lip kiss.

District spokesperson Devra Ashby said the kiss would be considered a public display of affection and a violation of school policy and district policy.

"Lip to lip kissing in a hallway,...would be something that a principal would stop if they were to walk down a hallway and see it," Ashby said.

However, the student who created the page says he never inserted that photo into his work. News 5 shared the document distributed by Ashby to Rodolpho "Coco" Toribo and his mother.

He says he used a different pose that showed the same students with the boy pressing his nose and forehead against the girl's cheek. He also says he was ordered by yearbook advisor Angela Selman to "remove the gay couple" or have the page deleted, referring to a photo that showed two female students holding hands.

That image isn't in the document provided by the district. Toribio also said his page was nearly complete and had photo captions. The document released by the district only contains latin text that is used in desktop publishing software to help with page layout.

A district ombudsman is investigating the discrimination complaint. Ashby said she could not comment directly about the allegations because the incident is still under investigation.
