Student detained after bringing a handgun to Lewis-Palmer High School

MONUMENT - A Lewis-Palmer student has been detained after he brought a handgun to school Wednesday, according to the El Paso County Sheriff's Office.  An annonymous tip made at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday pointed authorities to a male student.  A handgun was found in his backpack.  A lockdown of the school was ordered as a precaution while officers try to figure out why the gun was brought to school.  The lockdown was lifted shortly after noon.

Nobody was injured, and all students and staff members are safe and accounted for.

Here's the letter that was sent to Lewis-Palmer parents.
