BP has freed a diamond-tipped saw that had become stuck underwater in the latest attempt to contain the Gulf oil spill, and the company is still working on a way to slice through the pipe.
BP PLC spokesman Mark Proegler said Wednesday afternoon that the company is working out some logistical issues. The plan is to fit a cap on the blown-out well at the bottom of the Gulf of Mexico to capture most of the spewing oil. As robot submarines worked underwater, the nation's worst oil slick drifted perilously close to the Florida Panhandle.
