DENVER (AP) - The Colorado Rockies have activated Ty Wigginton off the disabled list and placed the third baseman in the starting lineup against San Diego on Friday night.

To make room on the roster, the Rockies sent struggling infielder Ian Stewart to Triple-A Colorado Springs to work on his swing.

Wigginton has been bothered by a strained oblique since late April, an injury that resulted in his first trip to the DL in two years. He's hitting .233 with two homers and 10 RBIs.

Stewart started the season on the Rockies' roster, but was sent down to Colorado Springs on April 19. He hit .361 with the Sky Sox and was brought back up to take the spot of Wigginton.

The 26-year-old Stewart is hitting .064 in 21 games with the Rockies this season.
