Stolen Colorado Springs SUV involved in border shooting

A man shot and wounded by federal officers after he allegedly sped from a gate at the nation's busiest border crossing near San Diego was in an SUV stolen in Colorado Springs March 1. Richard Cress, 54, is also suspected in a string of Denver metro area purse snatchings.

Wheat Ridge police spokeswoman Lisa Stigall says Cress is suspected of entering unlocked SUVs of women at gas stations while they pumped gas earlier this year.

San Diego police say Cress tried speeding away from the border Saturday, hit a pickup truck and concrete barriers before driving in reverse and hitting a border agent. Two agents fired on Cress, hitting him once. He's expected to survive.
