COLORADO SPRINGS - The Printers Park Medical Plaza where Memorial Hospital operates an outpatient surgery department and other services will be closed for the remainder of the week after 17 employees became ill following reports of a strange odor and color in the building's water.
According to a news release issued late Monday evening, the employees were treated for nausea and other symptoms.
"This closure affects hundreds of patients and dozens of employees, and Memorial recognizes this might be inconvenient," the statement reads. "The decision, however, is driven by our commitment to patient safety and the safety of our staff."
The hospital is working to reschedule patient appointments at other locations. Any employees, patients or visitor who went to the building at 175 S. Union Blvd. and are feeling ill may call HealthLink at 719-444-2273 and speak to a nurse about their symptoms.
The exact time or cause of the change in water quality are not yet known. The building owner and the El Paso County Public Health Department are aware of the issue.
