An estimated 1,500 people laced up their sneakers and hit the trails near America the Beautiful Park Saturday morning to help fight juvenile diabetes.
The walk is one of the biggest fundraisers of the year for the Colorado Springs branch of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Events Coordinators Lauren Hazekamp says they raised $23,000 on Saturday alone and nearly $100,000 during the campaign this year.
"It just makes my day, I couldn't be happier with the turn out," Hazekamp said. "Every year the more people we have the closer we are to finding that cure for type one diabetes."
Planning for this event takes several months. Hazekamp says she and a team of volunteers started preparing for the walk back in January.
