Gov. Bill Ritter is recognizing efforts to make Colorado homes more energy efficient by marking a milestone - the 600th home to be weatherized in Denver and Jefferson County.

Ritter will visit the Denver home Friday.

The Governor's Energy Office has contracted with Veterans Green Jobs to weatherize 1,700 homes in 18 months.

The energy office says weatherizing homes creates jobs and lower utility bills.

The office says upgrading insulation, sealing air leaks and installing high-efficiency appliances can save homeowners an average of $437 in utility costs annually.
