State high school wrestling tourney kicks off at Pepsi Center

The Avs are out of town and the Nuggets are on the All-Star break and the best high school wrestlers in Colorado have taken center stage at Pepsi Center.

The Colorado high school wrestling tournament started Thursday and continues through Saturday night in Denver.

As always Southern Colorado is well represented. Coronado is the top ranked team in 5A, Pine Creek is third and Fountain-Fort Carson tenth. In Class 4A Discovery Canyon is ranked fifth, Pueblo Central sixth and Pueblo South tenth. La Junta is ranked sixth and Lamar seventh in 3A. And in 2A Fowler is ranked first and the favorite to win the team title. Rocky Ford is third in 2A, Crowley County is seventh and Baca County is ninth.

And there are numerous southern Colorado wrestlers ranked first in their weight classes and favored to win individual state title.
