State golf tourney is underway from Colorado Springs

The best high school golfers in the state are in Colorado Springs this week.

The 4A girls high school championships are taking place at the Country Club of Colorado.
Over 80 girls played the first of two rounds Monday, including Faith Watson of Sand Creek and Allie Garcia of Coronado.

They were happy with their rounds, but said they were a little nervous.

"I'm excited i want to get back out there," said Watson. "I mean, it's just an enjoyable time getting to state so it should be fun. It'll be better tomorrow. I still might be a little nervous, but it'll be better."

"I'm not disappointed," said Garcia. "It was a struggle, but I think that I did the best I could do, so I'm happy with that and I think that I'll tackle it better tomorrow."

The highest standing Southern Colorado golfer so far is Courtney Ewing of Pueblo West who is fourth.

The 5A tourney is in Littleton.  Both the 4A and 5A tournaments conclude on Tuesday.
