Starving horse found in Pueblo County

Pueblo Animal Services say they believe a very thin horse was intentionally abandoned in Eastern Pueblo County last week.

The horse, now called "Stony" was found by a landowner on Doyle Road on Tuesday, April 27th, who said their fence had been cut apparently to let the horse in.

The dark bay gelding is approximately eight or nine years old and in very poor condition.

If the person responsible for the abandonment and neglect of this horse is found, they could be charged with cruelty to animals, a class one misdemeanor which could carry an 18 month jail and/or a $5,000 fine.

"If no owner is located, the horse will be transferred to Front Range Equine Rescue for rehabilitation after a required holding period," said Donna Straub of Pueblo Animal Services.

Anyone with information regarding the horse is asked to contact Pueblo Animal Services immediately at 719-544-3005.
