A proposed ski village in southwest Colorado that has been in limbo after federal officials agreed to redo an environmental analysis could be getting new life with a new plan and new location.
Developers behind the proposed project at the Wolf Creek ski area are exploring a possible land exchange with the U.S. Forest Service that would steer construction away from wetlands and ski runs. They're also looking at scaling back the size of the development on the land owned by Texas billionaire Billy Joe "Red" McCombs.
Environmentalists dropped lawsuits last year when the Forest Service agreed to a new environmental analysis on the Wolf Creek Village. The developers and managers of the ski area also settled lawsuits against each other on the project in the Rio Grande National Forest.
