Stabbing was result of a fight over a puppy

Officers with the Colorado Springs Police Department believe a fight between two neighbors at an apartment complex on University Drive that ended with an elderly man being stabbed in the chest started with an argument over a puppy.

Sgt. Steve Noblitt says the fight took place on a balcony outside of a second story apartment shortly before noon Tuesday. The victim, described as a man in his mid 60's, was taken by ambulance to a local hospital with serious injuries.

The suspect, described as a black man in his late 30's, was taken into custody and faces possible charges of assault or attempted murder. Due to his age, the victim is considered an at risk adult, which carries extra penalties in court.
