Stabbing suspect from Canon City arrested in Greeley

CANYON CITY - A 22-year-old Canon City man suspected of stabbing another man outside of a bar Saturday night was arrested Tuesday in Greeley. Matthew James Hansen is being held at the Fremont County Jail on a charge of First Degree Assault.

Investigators with the Canon City Police Department believe Hansen stabbed the 22-year old victim in the chest and leg after a confrontation in an alley in the 600 block of North Main Street sometime around 10:50 p.m. Saturday.

There was reportedly a disagreement between Hansen and an unidentified woman inside a bar. The police say the two left the bar and headed to the alley and that the victim joined them out of a concern for the woman's safety.

The police are asking anyone with information related to the incident to contact them at 719-276-5600 or to leave an anonymous tip via Crime Stoppers by calling 719-275-STOP (7867); or texting Crime Stoppers at 274637. If texting, the message should begin with the characters tips680.
