COLORADO SPRINGS - The death of a man at a south Colorado Springs apartment complex has been ruled a homicide, the second of the year. The man is believed to be a Honduran national. However, a police department news release suggests officers are having difficulty identifying him.
According to autopsy results, the man died from multiple stab wounds. His body was left lying in the parking lot of the El Vecino Apartments off Monterey Rd. when police arrived Tuesday morning.
The News 5 Guardians dug deeper and found that police and fire fighters have been called to this particular apartment complex 246 since September.
Last year, tenants filed 43 complaints with the City of Colorado Springs Code Enforcement section. Code enforcement chief Tom Wasinger said the majority of complaints dealt with building maintenance, insects and water leaks.
The buildings were built in 1972 and have flat roofs. Wasinger said that style of roof is more susceptible to leaking and that many of the 2013 complaints were filed after the heavy rainstorms of last August and September.
Property records show the El Vecino Apartments are owned by the Limited Liability Company EV Apartments, LLC. Terrance Ragan is the registered agent for that company.
According to the El Paso County Assessor, the 2013 market value of the property is $5.6 million and the combined property taxes are $25,945.
