St. Charles River crests its banks in Pueblo County

PUEBLO COUNTY - Heavy rains overnight near Rye and Colorado City caused the St. Charles River to overflow its banks this morning. The Stevens family lives along the river in Pueblo County. They say it topped its banks at around 8:00 a.m. and started creeping toward their property.

KJ Stevens got the family horse trailer ready to evacuate if the water got any higher.

"I went over to the hay barn and got two bales of hay and put them in the back of the truck then I hooked up the horse trailer and moved the tractor so it wouldn't get washed away," he said.

By lunch time the river had receded back inside its banks. However, the Stevens' are keeping a close eye on storms throughout the evening.
