A Colorado Springs woman will stand trial in the slaying of her husband less than 30 minutes after police responded to a report that the man had been punched in the face by his wife.

Fifty-one-year-old Janet Lynn Hilton faces first-degree and third-degree assault charges in the Nov. 13 slaying of Daniel Hilton. Janet Hilton claims self-defense.

Police say 70-year-old Daniel Hilton refused to help officers find Janet Hilton, who had left the scene, or seek medical attention for a bloody left eye. Twenty-five minutes after they left, police say Janet Hilton returned and stabbed her husband twice in the chest with a Bowie knife.

District Judge David Prince ruled Friday there is enough evidence for a trial.
