The Transit Services Division of the City of Colorado Springs MetroRides group offers a free schoolpool service that can help with school transportation needs. The MetroRides program provides a free carpool matching service for parents. It's easy to sign up, just fill out a schoolpool application and send it in; you'll receive a list of parents in your neighborhood with children who attend the same school. You can then contact each other to start a carpool. You can also receive an application by mail if you contact MetroRides at 385-7433, option 2.
Last year over 206 applications were received. Get your application in today for the 2012/2013 school year, the more applications we receive, the better the chances are for a match. Parents whose children attend local schools that do not provide bus service, such as charter schools, can benefit greatly from this program.
Schoolpools help reduce congestion at school drop-off and pick-up areas, save time and money and help improve air quality by reducing the number of vehicles on the roadways. For more information call 385-RIDE or visit MetroRides online. If schoolpool does not turn up a match, the city bus may be a good option; bus fare for youth 18 and under is only .85 cents per ride.
Mountain Metropolitan Transit provides local fixed-route bus service, express bus service, and Metro Mobility ADA paratransit service for Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region. All buses are wheelchair-lift equipped. Mountain Metropolitan Transit also provides other services such as MetroRides' ridesharing, vanpool, and bicycling programs. For added convenience, there are bike racks on all buses for riders who want to utilize the bike-n-bus program.
