The metal is so hot it's liquid. The people pouring it are dressed like a cross between a fire fighter and a bee keeper.
It's an art form called "metal pouring." Students at Vanguard high school in the Springs had the unique opportunity on Friday to try it. They created beautiful 3-d sculptures.
"This is my first 3-D art class," said Natasha Garrison, a Vanguard senior. "I've never worked with clay or anything. To be able to say that i was around 1200 degree metal is kind of cool."
The high school didn't have the resources to do this so students in the sculpture department at Fort Hays State University in Kansas made a portable furnace for them to use.
"It's a really generous thing to do," said Jeremiah Evangelista, a senior. "It's a great way to meet other people. It's a great art form."
Their teacher hopes to do this again next year.
