Springs caregivers get "Chicken Soup" for their souls

Studies have shown caregivers have shorter lifespans because of their stressful occupation. But on Saturday, it was their turn to be taken care of.

The renowned, best-selling author of the "Chicken Soup for the Soul" books, LeAnn Thieman, spoke to an audience of around 140 caregivers at Discover Goodwill. The luncheon included chicken soup, of course, and a copy of "Chicken Soup for the Caregivers Soul" along with a book signing.

Caregivers have an increased risk of illness and depression.

"Very often caregivers are so busy administering to others that they don't take the time to care for their own minds, bodies and spirits," said LeAnn Thieman.

During her speech, Thieman gave simple tools to unwind and relax. Many of the attendees called her an "inspiration."

Discover Goodwill works with many people who require caregivers including seniors and those with developmental disabilities.
