Pikes Peak area law enforcement once again step up to help Special Olympics.

Thursday afternoon the Special Olympics torch run made it's way through El Paso and Teller counties. More than 100 law enforcement personnel took part in the run today

At a Flame of Hope ceremony in fron of the police station, Colorado Springs Police Chief Richard Myers said officers have always played a big role in helping the Special Olympics.

"I just want to give you a heartfelt thank you," Myers told the crowd, "what you're doing is noble, it's appreciated and let's face it - there isn't another segment of society that raises more money every year for special olympics than the law enforcement community that makes a statement right there."

Opening ceremonies for Colorado's Special Olympics are June 5th at the University of Northern Colorado in Greeley.
