Space Foundation offers free teacher classes in Pueblo

The Space Foundation is taking applications for a free one-week teacher training class on how to use space themes to teach science, technology, engineering and math.

The Lunar/Mars Exploration and Base Construction course is being offered to teachers in the Pueblo are and will be held June 27 - July 1 at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Some of the topic covered includes establishing and maintaining a human presence on the Moon or Mars, producing oxygen and energy, growing food, removing or recycling waste and exploring the Lunar and Martian surfaces. Teachers will learn how to integrate hands on activities from the course into the classroom.

The Space Foundation received $37,000 in grants to make the course available from the Chamberlain Foundation, the R.M. Watts Foundation, the Frank I. Lamb Foundation, and the E. M. Christmas Foundation.

A similar course will be offered in Colorado Springs later this summer. Teachers are encouraged to register online at www.spacefoundation.org/education.
