WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Sacramento starter Travis Banwart threw 7.0 scoreless innings as the River Cats shut out Colorado Springs 9-0 on Monday afternoon at Raley Field.
Sacramento held the Sky Sox to five runs over the four-game series while recording a four-game sweep. The previous time the River Cats had held an opponent to five runs or less over a four-game series was from August 27-30, 2007, when the River Cats held Colorado Springs to four runs while winning three of four games in the series. On Monday, Banwart allowed three hits and one walk while striking out seven. Reliever Trystan Magnuson pitched the two hitless innings to complete the shutout. Lead-off hitter Jemile Weeks led the Sacramento offense, going 3-for-5 with two runs, two RBIs and a stolen base.
The Sky Sox return home to begin an eight-game home stand. The Sox host Iowa in the first of four Tuesday at 6:05 p.m. at Security Service Field.
