Southern Colorado track & field team aims for state title

A Southern Colorado team is the favorite to win the 4A team track and field title this weekend.

Palmer Ridge High School is ranked number-one in the state. Two weeks ago, the Bears set a 4-by-400 relay state record. But they aren't satisfied with just one measly record. They want more and they want it now.

"When you have that team pushing you to do your best, it's... honestly, you're doing it for your family," said Palmer Ridge hurdler Evan Malin. "It's not like you're doing it for yourself anymore, so that makes it more rewarding."

"It's kind of a half-happy, because we know we want to do a lot better this year," said Palmer Ridge Hurdler Marcus Garrison. "The 4A record is great, but with the guys we have on our relay team we can break the all-time record for Colorado."

Palmer Ridge has 35 athletes competing at state, which is a District-38 record.
The state meet begins Thursday and wraps up on Saturday in Denver.
