Southern Colorado police chief and an officer face charges

CENTER, Colo. (AP) - The police chief and a police officer in the southern Colorado town of Center face criminal charges of misconduct and harassment. Center Police Chief LeRoy Torres and Officer Carlos Dean Heredia face charges related to alleged witness intimidation and other misconduct.

Alamosa Police Lt. Duane Oakes has been named acting police chief in Center while the charges are resolved. Torres has been charged with official misconduct. Heredia is accused of repeatedly using a Taser during a domestic violence call, and intimidating a witness. Heredia faces several charges including assault and misconduct.
The Valley Courier newspaper reports that Saguache County Sheriff Mike Norris has been placed in charge of an investigation.
