Southern Colorado is seeing a lot of growth in areas such as healthcare, but one major issue we're hving is a large decrese in manufacturing jobs.
Economists say since 2000, manufacturing jobs have decreased by 55%, and it's causing problems for southern Colorado. The Pikes Peak Region is still a full percentage point higher in unemployment than the state and the nation.
The city of Colorado Springs, while they aren't necessarily concentrated on restoring manufacturing jobs, has a priority to bring more jobs to Colorado Springs. They plan on doing that mostly through making the city a more business friendly community.
Economists say our local economy is mostly led by home and car sales, which isn't expected to change soon.
