Soldier suspected in attempted kidnapping

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - A 28-year-old Fort Carson soldier was arrested after police say he crawled into the back seat of a woman's car in downtown Colorado Springs and threatened to hurt her unless she drove away.

The Gazette reports Staff Sgt. Matthew Warren was arrested early Saturday and is being held on suspicion of attempted second-degree kidnapping.

Police say the 30-year-old woman bailed from her car near Acacia Park and ran away at about 12:30 a.m. - only to be followed by the assailant, who chased her down and punched her before fleeing. She was not taken to the hospital.

Warren, who was arrested after police received a tip from a cab driver in the area, is a member of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division.
