If you're looking for an excuse to go to the high country this weekend--here it is. Snowmass is holding its annual Balloon and Wine Festival.
Snowmass touts its festival as the highest altitude hot air balloon event in the country. More than 30 balloons are expected to attend. Snowmass puts a uniquely Colorado spin on its festival-Saturday morning, pilots will compete in the fierce but friendly competition, Dawn Quixote. Hot air balloon pilots will be armed with ski poles to try to pop the most helium balloons.
A Balloon Glow will be held Saturday evening. A free live concert will be performed during the Balloon Glow.
To help keep your kids entertained, Elevation Station will include clowns, juggling, face painting, balloon-making, and a house of bounce. Kids can also go in the tethered balloons for free.
The Wine Festival includes a grand tasting on the Snowmass Mall from 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. Saturday. The tasting includes more than 300 different varieties of wine plus fabulous regional cuisine. There will also be live music and an auction. Tickets at the door are $75.
