TODAY: A Pacific storm system tracking from Arizona into New Mexico will bring rain and then snow showers to all of Colorado! Areas of rain and snow will begin falling for the Springs and Pueblo as the day progresses. Where temps warm into the 40's (Pueblo, Canon City, Fountain, La Junta, Trinidad) we will see rain first and then snow by afternoon into evening. Colorado Springs and areas to the north and over the mountains will see precip start mostly as snow. How much snow will fall? Here are the totals that are ‘possible' by Thursday morning.
Colo. Springs: 5"+
Falcon: 5 -9"
Teller County: 4-8"
Pueblo/Pueblo West: 3-5"
La Junta: 4"
Canon City: 2-4"+
*When we have storms move through New Mexico like this one thing we watch VERY closely is how much rain or snow falls in Kansas, Oklahoma and northern Texas. If there is widespread precip in these areas it will reduce how much snow we see here locally...main because it limits the amount of moisture the storm will have to make snow in eastern Colorado.
TONIGHT: Snow showers and gusty winds continue and will make driving tonight and tomorrow morning for the commute difficult! Wind driven snow will cause very limited visibility in places like El Paso County and the southeastern plains around Crowley, Otero, Bent Baca and Prowers Counties. Temps tonight in the teens and twenties with much colder wind chill values.
THURSDAY: Snow, gusty, cold and slow to start the day. We could see school delays and closures. Precip decreases early as the storm moves into the central plains. Snow will end last for the eastern border counties by late morning or early afternoon. Temps will be quite cold with highs of only 28 in the Springs and 34 in Pueblo and Canon City and with gusty winds it will feel much colder. all of us during the day it will feel very cold!
FRIDAY-SATURDAY: Sunnier, drier and warmer weather returns for a couple of days. Temps on Friday will be in the mid 30's in the Springs to around 40 for Pueblo and Canon City with mostly sunny skies. There will be snow in the mountains for skiers and even a slight chance of a few flurries over Teller County and the mountains west of I-25. Even milder for all of us on Saturday...as temps warm to 47 for Colorado Springs, about 50 in Fountain and the lower 50's for Pueblo, Canon City and La Junta. Skies will be mostly sunny early and then become cloudier later as the day goes-on. With another storm on the way, more snow will fall in the mountains & ski resorts. By late in the day and overnight the mountains west of I-25 (the Rampart Range, Wets & Sangres) will see another chance of snow by late in the evening and into Sunday.
SUNDAY: Colder with some light snow back in the forecast for all us again. Highs will only be in the lower to middle 30's in the Springs and about 40 in Pueblo and Canon City.
MONDAY-TUESDAY: We'll be between storms again with quieter weather expected. Mostly sunny skies on Monday with temps warming into the 40's...a little cooler on Tuesday with our next storm bringing snow to the high country and by late in the day and evening a few light showers could fall over Teller County and the mountains close to home. We'll keep you posted.
