Snow, high winds headed to winter-weary Northeast

The second part of a two-day, 1-2 winter punch is headed toward the Northeast. Forecasters say the storm is packing wind gusts up to 50 mph and could dump more than a foot of snow on winter-weary residents.

The National Weather Service says Thursday's forecast storm in the Northeast will be significant and long-lasting. The blast of winter has the potential to knock out power and heap more snow on areas still digging out from storms earlier this month. Philadelphia faces up to a foot of snow in what's already its snowiest winter on record.

On Wednesday, a storm stretching from eastern Pennsylvania into northern New England blanked areas around Albany, N.Y., with up to 2 feet of snow. About 150,000 customers lost power. Air and rail traffic were stalled. At least three deaths were blamed on the storm.
