TODAY: Snow and wind will continue through the middle part of the afternoon and then decrease rapidly as the storm moves into the central plains. So far we have had wind gusts in excess of 45-53 mph making the wind chill feel like it is below zero at times in eastern Colorado! There are BLIZZARD WARNINGS through 6 PM for wind and snow over Monument Hill & the Palmer Divide...including: Monument, USAFA, Black Forest, Palmer Lake and Calhan. We have had reports of a 'white out' in Calhan and Peyton earlier today. Snow totals will range from"+...with higher drifts. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORIES now include Pueblo until 8 PM tonight as well as, Teller County/Rampart Range, The Wet & Sangre de Cristo Mtns...and Huerfano and Las Animas Counties. TONIGHT: Winds and clouds will decrease rapidly as the storm system rolls into the central U.S. Our temps will really drop overnight and will be some of the coldest readings we have seen this season. 6 degrees in the Springs....0 in Pueblo. Temps at or below zero across Teller County and the mountains, with wind chills values for all of us that will make it feel much colder than it actually is! If you have to travel today or tonight make sure to have a full charged cell phone with you as well as your emergency kit in the car. Also...make sure you let someone know of your travel plans.
THURSDAY-SUNDAY: Much milder...sunnier, drier and calmer weather all four days! Temps tomorrow will be in the lower to middle 40's for Colorado Springs and Pueblo. Temps warm even more for the beginning of winter on Friday. 51 in the Springs and Pueblo warming to 54. Good weather for last minute Christmas shopping continues for the weekend with temps staying warmer than average in the Springs and Pueblo and skies staying mostly sunny.
MONDAY: Weather for Christmas Eve day will start changing across the state as another storm system begins bringing more snow to the mountains of western Colorado. Here in eastern Colorado our temps will be about 6-8 degrees cooler compared to the weekend and we'll see increasing clouds during the afternoon.
CHRISTMAS EVE: Snow showers expected to increase in the high country and we might even see a few light snow showers across the Rampart Range & Teller County as well as the Wet and Sangre de Cristo Mountains for Santa and his reindeer! Chances for snow at about 20% in those areas.
CHRISTMAS DAY: Colder with a chance for some snow showers! Chances for light snow are only about 20% for Colorado Springs and Pueblo and about 30% for Teller County and mountains west of I-25. High temps will only be in the 20's in Teller County & mountains and 20's to around 30 in Colorado Springs. Pueblo and Canon City temps will only make it to about 34-35 degrees. Keep in mind that Christmas is still more than 5 days away and the forecast could change between now and then. We'll keep you posted!
