COLUMBUS, Ga. (AP) - The mother of a slain Georgia police officer says she can't believe that the execution of Troy Davis has taken place 22 years after he was convicted of killing her son.

Anneliese MacPhail told The Associated Press that the feelings of relief and peace she has been waiting for all these years will come later. She says she is numb right now.

Davis was convicted of killing Mark MacPhail, an off-duty police officer in Savannah, Ga. Davis insisted he was innocent until the very end. He was executed at 11:08 p.m. Wednesday. MacPhail's widow, Joan MacPhail-Harris, says that it's now a time for healing for all families. She says she will grieve for the Davis family.
