The Colorado Springs Sky Sox defeated the Las Vegas 51s 17-3 Tuesday to win their sixth straight game and complete a four game sweep in front of 2,785 fans at Security Service Field.
The Sox smacked five home runs including two by Charlie Blackmon in a dominating offensive performance. Blackmon finished the night 3-for-5 with five RBI and three runs scored. It was his first multi home run game of the season and he now leads the Sox with six home runs.
The rout began in the first as Ian Stewart connected on a three-run home run to give the Sox a 3-0 lead. Stewart reached base six times on the night, going 4-for-4 with four RBI, a run scored, and two walks.
Josh Fields hit his third home run of the year in the third, a two-run shot, to give the Sox a 5-1 lead.
With the score 8-1 in the fifth, Blackmon hit his first home run of the night, a three-run blast to straight away center field. He added a solo homer in the sixth to give the Sox a 14-2 lead.
The last home run of the night came off the bat of Chris Nelson on a solo shot to give the Sox a 16-2 lead in the seventh.
Sox Starter Josh Muecke (1-2, 4.40) picked up his first win of the season allowing two runs on eight hits over 5.1 innings.
Brett Cecil (0-1, 20.77) picked up the loss for Las Vegas allowing 11 runs (10 earned) on 13 hits in 4.1 innings.
On a night with numerous offensive stars for the Sox, Jordan Pacheco stood out with a 5-for-5 night and four runs scored. It was Pacheco's first five-hit game with the Sky Sox.
With the win, the Sox improve to 11-9 on the year and have now won six straight for the first time since August 4th-10th of the 2008 season. The loss drops the 51s to 9-11 on the year.
The Sox have their first off-day of the season on Wednesday before heading to Tucson for a four-game set with the Padres beginning Thursday.
