The Omaha Storm Chasers road Lorenzo Cain's cycle and seven RBI to a 16-11 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Saturday night in front of 5,315 fans at Security Service Field.
Cain got the scoring started with a grand slam off of Sox starter Alan Johnson in the first inning to give Omaha a 4-0 lead. He would lead off the third inning with a double and eventually scored on a double by Joaquin Arias as the Storm Chasers took a 9-6 lead after three innings. Cain collected his fifth RBI of the night in the fourth on an RBI single to make it 10-6.
The Sky Sox would battle back to take an 11-10 lead in the fifth on RBI doubles by Eliezer Alfonzo and Jordan Pacheco and a Mike Jacobs sacrifice fly.
Cain would reclaim the lead for the Storm Chasers as he completed the cycle with a two-run triple to give Omaha a 12-11 lead they would not relinquish. They would tack on four more runs highlighted by a two-run home run by Lance Zawadzki for the final margin of 16-11.
Eric Young Jr. was the catalyst for the Sox, hitting his team-leading sixth triple of the year and finishing 2-for-4 with three runs scored, 2RBI and 2 stolen bases. Mike Jacobs had three RBI for the Sox in the losing effort.
Jesus Colome (0-2, 9.75) took the loss for the Sox allowing three runs on four hits in an inning of work as the Sox fell to 16-21 on the year. Greg Holland (2-0, 2.41) picked up the win for the Storm Chasers who improved to 20-16 on the season.
Game two comes your way Sunday afternoon as RHP Greg Reynolds (3-0, 5.83) takes the mound against RHP Blake Johnson (0-1, 12.00). First pitch is scheduled for 1:05 PM MT.
• The grand slam given up by Sox start Alan Johnson was the third grand slam he's given up in a Sox uniform which ties him for second most in Sky Sox history.
• Cain's cycle was the first against the Sky Sox since Joe Borchard did it with Fresno on May 3rd, 2010
