Sky Sox Fall to Redhawks, 8-1

The Oklahoma City Redhawks (58-59) rode a great pitching performance by Brady Rodgers (1-0) and the power bat of Preston Tucker, as they dropped the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (47-68) by the score of 8-1 on Sunday evening.

Rodgers made his first start of the season for the Redhawks and tossed six shutout innings. He gave up just two hits in the game, walked one, and struck out four. A pair of relievers pitched the final three innings, giving up just one run on five hits, as Oklahoma City shutdown the Sky Sox offense.

The only run for the Sox came on a bases loaded double play in the seventh inning. Matt McBride continued his hot hitting with a 2-for-4 at the plate while scoring the lone Sky Sox run. Tim Wheeler also went 2-for-2 with a walk in the losing effort.

At the plate, the Redhawks smacked out 13 hits including the two biggest by Tucker. The designated hitter launched a pair of homers on the night, with the first coming in the home half of the first inning. His two-run homer off Sox starter Mike McClendon (2-4) would prove to be all the offense the Redhawks would need on the day, however, Tucker also added a solo shot in the seventh off reliever Christian Friedrich. Ronnie Torreyes also drove in a pair of runs for the Redhawks as part of his 4-for-5 day at the plate.

Game three of the four-game series is set for Monday night at 7:05 PM. RH Chad Bettis (2-2, 1.72) is set to start for the Sky Sox versus RH Asher Wojciechowski (1-3, 6.34). For Bettis, it will be his first start since September 8, 2013 when he was pitching for the Rockies.
